ADAPT Trip
I decided to make my post today since it is an important topic to talk about today. When my group and I went to Pinebrook, for ADAPT, we were excited to meet the students. As we performed in the first class, I couldn't believe how adorable 6th graders were. Thinking they were all cool, and seeing some really quiet, and so on. As we talked about not doing drugs and alcohol, many of them were very cooperative about answering the questions. The next class though, same grade, was completely different. It's amazing how ONE class can look sooo different. They looked a lot older and one girl did not want to sign the pledge and she said she didn't care and wouldn't want to bother. As I observed as we were teaching them, it is really true that eventually, they will be using drugs and alcohol. A speech won't change their minds forever. There will always be those people to start the "trend" in their grade and their friends get affected by it and there the pattern goes. =/ It's really upsetting to know that some of those innocent ones will eventually be peer pressured. You could tell by the attitude they give towards this lesson.
